Public Access Lab

General Information

The Charles River Public Internet Center (CRPIC) is a community technology center that welcomes all who need access to computers, the internet, and training. We provide the general public with untimed access to 20 computers for a suggested donation of $1.00.

Our computers are equipped with Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows 10, Microsoft Office 2010, and access the internet via high-speed business grade service. There are a limited number of computers available with open source software or Microsoft Office 2016.

The computers are networked to scanners and printers and the front desk staff is happy to assist you in making copies and sending domestic faxes. Administrative service fees are charged for printing, scanning, copying, and faxing. If you would like to save your documents or files, please bring your own USB flash drive as the computers do not save any information once a session has ended.

Assistive technologies such as large screen, screen magnification software, and trackballs are available upon request.

Assistance and Services

Our professional staff is available to provide free, informal assistance on an as-needed, as-available basis while you are using the public computers. They can help you set up online accounts, upload resumes, submit online job applications, conduct an internet search, and more. This service is designed to help you with the technology aspects of a particular project or task you are working on in the public lab. If you are interested in more in-depth help or would like to learn about a specific software application, please read about our one-on-one tutoring and low cost classes (link to tutoring and classes).

Public Hours and Access

Hours for the general public are 12 pm and 8 pm, Monday through Thursday.
CRPIC is open at other times and on other days to accommodate corporate clients, scheduled classes, testing, the VITA Center, and special workshop or lectures.
For the general public, we follow the Waltham Public School calendar for holidays and Waltham Public School closings for inclement weather.

CRPIC is an ADA compliant, handicapped-accessible facility.
